AI slop – so what?

Lately there are plenty of articles discussing AI slop – that would be AI generated digital content of low (or no) quality, meaningless, pointless, junk. I don’t get it – what’s the fuzz about?

People were trying to get their page higher in the search results even before Google. Nobody (but Google) can tell how many junk websites and articles were created with solely that goal in mind. My guess – a lot. 80% of the easily accessible websites are literally – junk, dictionaries of key words and endless redirects, SPAM, bullshit, and mind that 80% is a conservative estimate. From the rest 20% that are presumably meaningful, probably 80% are low quality content. The Internet was already full of junk so more won’t change a thing. See – the world is filled up with people who want to be heard and very few willing to listen, the Internet provided the means to float your voice out there and come what may. As a result we have a junk yard of crap content. The latter is an issue for those who train LLMs because in the world of ML and AI – DATA IS EVERYTHIG, but please don’t rant about the AI slop – there was human slop long before LLMs.
